About Siempre Salud

Siempre Salud colored logo - cropped 2 2015-08-30Siempre Salud representa una justa búsqueda de una vida larga y buena para todas las personas. (Siempre Salud represents the just pursuit of a long and good life for all persons).

Siempre Salud’s mission is to help low-income communities in South America develop systems of prevention, early detection and primary care of those illnesses that cause the most early deaths and severe disability. Our long-term goal is for communities to become owners of their own mutual associations for cooperative health.

Chincha Sept 2007In August 2007 there was a destructive earthquake in Chincha, Peru and Dr. John Deaver, an obstetrician-gynecologist and epidemiologist, founded Asociación Siempre Salud, a Peruvian non-profit association, as a response to the need for ongoing humanitarian relief. Since January 2008 Dr. Deaver has been working in Peru half-time, usually every other month, alternating with work as a hospitalist obstetrician-gynecologist in the United States (most recently at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford, Delaware).  In 2009, Siempre Salud  USA was formed as a non-profit corporation to support the community health development efforts in Latin America. Siempre Salud USA is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Siempre Salud has been working for the past seven years with three Peruvian south coastal desert communities (population 5,000). During the last five years we have continuously operated a system of prevention, early detection and primary care of the most frequent contributors to early adult mortality in those communities. In July 2015 Dr. Deaver began to work full-time for Siempre Salud and is in the process of forming a non-profit organization in Argentina where Siempre Salud intends to create similar systems on a larger scale.
